Suspicion: There's a Japanese phrase behind this "people die if they are killed/x won't die even if killed" that gets translated literally/verbatim all the time.
Quick, hand me a native Japanese! Dictionaries won't help here.

Maybe "killing" in Japanese means the attempt of killing someone rather than achieving someone's death?
